All Ready? Emergencies Happen. Prepare Today.

Make sure you have the essentials.

No one wants to be without important supplies during a time they are needed the most. The St. Louis region has a number of organizations ready to assist during times of emergency – but they can't get to everyone right away. It's important that residents do their part to make sure they have needed supplies and medication to survive on their own – whether it's for a few hours or a few days. A preparedness kit can be a real lifesaver.

Your emergency kit should contain the things that will keep you comfortable and safe during a range of situations. At a minimum, you should have three days worth of food, water and other necessary items such as medication or first-aid supplies. It's also wise to keep some cash on hand in case there are difficulties accessing money. If you're a pet owner, don't forget about them too! Store in an easily portable case that you can grab-and-go in case of an evacuation.

Additionally, it's wise to have two-weeks' worth of supplies at home, in case stores are closed or you cannot leave the area.

Don't forget to check your supplies every six months to replace things that are expired or outdated.
